Finding Our Mission

Finding Our Mission

Apart from always having loved tinkering with electronics, I’ve been asking myself recently: Why am I so determined to build an audio-video business? There are countless ventures out there, each with the potential to be profitable and solve real problems for people. In fact, many would probably serve rural Utah better than an audio-video business. So why am I so drawn to this? Looking back, I think the answer is found in my childhood memories...

When I was seven, I sat in a little hometown restaurant, mesmerized by the tiny ripples racing across the surface of my water glass. The ripples danced with a rhythm, each a second apart. I looked up, wide-eyed, and whispered to my father, “Oh no! It’s a T-rex, Dad, it’s coming!” My dad smiled and played along, “Oh no,” he said with mock concern, and we both laughed. Just hours earlier, my parents and I had watched The Lost World: Jurassic Park at our local movie theater. In my mind, that movie had transported me to a world where dinosaurs roamed the streets and tiny people—like me—ran to get out of their way. Seeing that film on the big screen was more than just entertainment. It was a moment where I wasn’t just watching; I was in the story, living it, feeling it. That immersive experience, the sheer awe of it, stayed with me.

Not long after, I auditioned for the first-grade play, The Wizard of Oz, and landed the role of the Cowardly Lion. I didn’t have many lines, but I’ll never forget the joy I felt when the audience laughed at me as I roared and then scampered away in fear when Dorothy yelled. In that moment, I wasn’t just a kid playing a part—I was sharing a story, making others feel something, and I realized that telling stories was as magical as experiencing them.

Then came high school, where my love for theatrics and storytelling only grew. Theater became a world of its own for me, and beyond the stage, I cherished the moments backstage with friends. We would pump ourselves up with our favorite songs before the curtain went up, and after the final bow, we’d linger, playing slow, nostalgic tunes that left us wondering if there would ever be better days than these. The stories we told, the music we shared—it wasn’t just entertainment. It was connection, memory, and the feeling that we were a part of something bigger.

After the final school bell rang and my friends scattered, I often found myself in the quiet company of my car speakers. That’s when the music became my companion. The All-American Rejects’ Swing, Swing would blast from the radio, and suddenly, those lyrics about a lover just "swing, swing(ing) from the tangles of my heart" hit home. I mean, it was like they got me—my unrequited teenage romances, my angst. The song somehow turned every minor crush into a full-blown drama. It was as if my life was a coming-of-age movie, and I was the lead character... starring in a romance that was just slightly out of reach. Those songs didn’t just fill the silence; they understood me in a way that felt deeply personal (and also kind of hilarious in hindsight).

These moments—these stories—are some of the most vivid memories of my life. They’re a part of who I am. And at the center of every one of them is a powerful story: a story I watched, performed, or listened to.

So, when I ask myself again: Why audio-video? Why home theater?—the answer is simple. I’ve loved the art of storytelling for as long as I can remember, and nothing excites me more than the idea of helping others experience that same wonder in their own homes. Storytelling isn’t just about watching a film or listening to music—it’s about creating an experience, about feeling something deeper. And that’s what I want to do for people. I want to help them build these experiences right into their lives, right into the walls of their homes.
